Just to clarify: if I'm reading the updated spec text correctly, I think the specced behavior is now different from what @Loirooriol posted above in this comment: https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/2483#issuecomment-377214307 @Loirooriol's expectation from that markup was `««»`, but I think the final spec text would instead produce `«<»` (given the spec's `Note: [...] the depth of quote nesting in the subtree is unchanged and starts at the value that its context normally implied`).
