To add to https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/3012#issuecomment-412374078 we found several new timing attacks, so the Paint API is not really at fault here. I think your suggestion @tabatkins is great! (With something like this, we'd even be able to expose a `getHistory` JavaScript API without impacting privacy [not that we should].)
