For colors there are already the so called [System Colors](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/color_value#System_Colors), that do work in some browsers and OSes (namely IE and Firefox, never tested in Edge). The Background, Highlight and HighlightText colors also work in Windows Phone's IE and one can do a fully adaptive app theme, that mutates with the currently selected background and highlight in the OS - something not possible in iOS/Android.

If these constants are going to be implemented in all browsers, I'm all for that.
