During the meeting on Wednesday, John Udell mentioned the importance of provenance but noted the tools are lacking. There are two sides to that equation: the tools being used versus the requirements for creating, maintaining, and sharing business-quality records. While I'm not holding my breath, there are signs that Uncle Sam may be making progress in the direction of using tools that meet the underlying requirements: https://gcn.com/articles/2018/09/06/nara-records-modernization.aspx?s=gcntech_070918 See also https://www.ussm.gov/fibf/ With respect to credibility, it seems to me the key aspects outlined in the latter are: 1) standard data (and metadata) elements and 2) performance metrics.
