Dear Community Group Program, First, many thanks to those who participated in our 3 September discussion [1] about our project to improve the CG Program. For those who could not attend, a recording is available from the minutes. Given the level of interest, Dom and I plan to organize more regular meetings of this group, which we will now call the “Community Group Program CG” rather than the “CG Council” (per [2]). We invite you to join us for the next conversation on 23 October at 15:00 UTC [3]; see the calendar invitation [4] for details. Agenda: • Around the table very short summaries: hearing from one chair per CG represented on the call about the topic of their CG. • What we hope to get from this series of calls: • Technical content (e.g., new groups, publications, etc.) • Operational content (e.g., good practices, challenges) • First example: considerations for migrating to the Rec track, while acknowledging we need some consolidation of multiple resources • At this meeting we will have presentations on: • Technical content: (TBD) • Operational content: Considerations when transferring a CG Specification for Standardization [5] • New Slack channel for discussion among CG Chairs [6] • Plans for TPAC discussion about Community Groups • CG Chair lunch on 12 September (2 tables for 10) • Breakout session (and we will seek input on the call) • Any other suggestions for CG-related activities during TPAC? • What should be the cadence for this recurring meeting? • Volunteers to present on a technical or operational issue at upcoming calls (post-TPAC)? Note: As with our 3 September call, we will send invitations to this call to the Advisory Committee, Advisory Board, CG Chairs, and Team. We encourage people interested in this project to join the Community Group Program CG [7], and moving forward we will communicate about these meetings via that group’s list. We look forward to the discussion, Ian and Dom [1] https://www.w3.org/2025/09/03-council-minutes.html [2] https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-council/2025Sep/0007.html [3] https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/meetingdetails.html?year=2025&month=10&day=23&hour=15&min=0&sec=0&p1=1440&p2=64&p3=43&p4=248&p5=111&p6=33&p7=195&p8=152&p9=771 [4] https://www.w3.org/events/meetings/f792adbb-7e7f-4d42-997b-ee440532d371/ [5] https://github.com/w3c/cg-program/blob/main/transfer-considerations.md [6] https://w3ccommunity.slack.com/archives/C09HRJAMHV1 [7] https://www.w3.org/groups/cg/council/ -- Ian Jacobs <ij@w3.org> https://www.w3.org/People/Jacobs/ Tel: +1 917 450 8783
