Hi, There is a statement in the Understanding document for 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide that would benefit from clarification. https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/pause-stop-hide.html Under the Intent section, the definition for "Moving, blinking and scrolling" refers to content in which the visible > content conveys a sense of motion. Common examples include motion pictures, > synchronized media presentations, animations, real-time games, and > scrolling stock tickers. I thought "scrolling" could also mean a carousel - it moves as it rotates through each image or featured content. Because of that, the following statement led me to conclude that carousels cannot meet this standard, because they do not have a way to pause, stop, or hide them, according to this criteria: The word "pause" here is meant in the sense of a "pause button" although > other mechanisms than a button can be used. Having an animation stop only > so long as a user has focus on it (where it restarts as soon as the user > moves the focus away) would not be considered a "mechanism for the user to > pause" because it makes the page unusable in the process and would not meet > this SC. However, carousels are not addressed in this Understanding document. It wasn't until I reached out for help in the WAI discussion group that Shawn pointed me in the right direction. ;) https://www.w3.org/WAI/tutorials/carousels/ According to this carousels tutorial, carousels only need to be able to be paused (there is no mention of requiring a pause button), so even if carousels count as moving or scrolling content, this standard does not appear to completely apply to them. I recommend including information about carousels, or at a minimum, linking to the carousels tutorial in this Understanding document. I am teaching on web accessibility, and want to convey accurate information, so this kind of documentation is very helpful. Thank you, Vanessa Tillemans ᐧ
