Clear Language/Internationalization updates + upcoming meetings

Hi, COGA folks, below are upcoming meeting dates for the Clear
Language/Internationalization subgroups, a summary of our recent (and
very interwined!) work, and next steps.

*Upcoming meetings*
I sent calendar invites today to the COGA taskforce. Please join if
you are interested in Clear Language or Internationalization, thank
you!

Meetings are during COGA's usual subgroup time on Thursday at 11 am
Eastern time.

   - Nov. 2
   - Nov. 9
   - Nov. 30
   - Dec. 14

*Clear Language*
In August, we received feedback on our 2023 Clear Language draft

on Github and also during AG's August 22nd meeting:

   - Pre-meeting summary

   - Post-meeting notes

We will spend the next few weeks addressing the feedback and
developing conditional tests in English.

*Internationalization*
In September, COGA's Clear Language and Internationalization subgroups
aligned on 5 languages to propose for initial testing for WCAG 3's
Clear Language guidelines.

   - Arabic
   - Chinese (Mandarin)
   - English
   - Hindi
   - Russian

Our logic for this set of 5 languages:

   - We used the United Nations' 6 official languages as our starting point.
   - We removed French and Spanish because they are so similar to English.
   - We added Hindi because it is the most commonly spoken language
that is not one of the 6 official United Nations languages.
   - The resulting list is a diverse group of languages that includes:
   - Right-to-left layout
      - Tonal language
      - Vertical layout

In October, Lisa is working with the AG and APA chairs to schedule a
joint meeting to help us get "buy in" from W3C's internationalization
team.

   - Clear Language put together a short internationalization proposal
deck <https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1iGYvCk2BPMplbYT3w3ROAyZXCUnN5g8nsiMcphRrAAI/edit#slide=id.p>
that explains why we want to move forward with this set of 5
languages.
   - Stay tuned for a joint-meeting invite hopefully soon.

Thanks,
Julie
