Hi, folks, thanks for your time yesterday, and special thanks to Katy for
scribing!
*Summary of Clear Language meeting on May 11th, 2023*
- *Sprint status*
- We reached our sprint goal! The Clear Language working draft
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JKJ32DK_A82ahsQ_k0RVPc-ZYpX5uuKtuGOLdo2OqyY/edit#heading=h.84fgv1lk7yps>
now has:
- *Placeholder section:* This is WCAG 3's phrase for the
summary/overview.
- *User needs section*
- *Outcomes: *We expanded our original 5 outcomes to 24 so that
each is narrow enough to only need 1 test per outcome.
- *1 quantitative test:* Using common words and defining uncommon
words.
- *1 assertion: *Conducting a plain language review.
- *Concerns about possible "scope creep"*
- We debated which outcomes might be too far afield for Clear
Language:
- *Nonverbal cues in audio or video media* (in current draft)
- *Clear background* for text (in current draft)
- *White spacing*/using blank spaces to chunk the text (in current
draft)
- *Text appearance* such as text spacing and line height (*not* in
current draft)
- Our subgroup needs clarity on what might be covered elsewhere in
WCAG 3.
- *Next steps*
1. *COGA: *We'll share current draft with the taskforce and incorporate
feedback.
2. *WCAG 3: *Jeanne will share updated draft via survey with larger
group of WCAG 3 folks to get feedback on current direction, scope, number
of outcomes, etc.
