Hi, folks, thanks for your time yesterday, and special thanks to Katy for scribing! *Summary of Clear Language meeting on May 11th, 2023* - *Sprint status* - We reached our sprint goal! The Clear Language working draft <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JKJ32DK_A82ahsQ_k0RVPc-ZYpX5uuKtuGOLdo2OqyY/edit#heading=h.84fgv1lk7yps> now has: - *Placeholder section:* This is WCAG 3's phrase for the summary/overview. - *User needs section* - *Outcomes: *We expanded our original 5 outcomes to 24 so that each is narrow enough to only need 1 test per outcome. - *1 quantitative test:* Using common words and defining uncommon words. - *1 assertion: *Conducting a plain language review. - *Concerns about possible "scope creep"* - We debated which outcomes might be too far afield for Clear Language: - *Nonverbal cues in audio or video media* (in current draft) - *Clear background* for text (in current draft) - *White spacing*/using blank spaces to chunk the text (in current draft) - *Text appearance* such as text spacing and line height (*not* in current draft) - Our subgroup needs clarity on what might be covered elsewhere in WCAG 3. - *Next steps* 1. *COGA: *We'll share current draft with the taskforce and incorporate feedback. 2. *WCAG 3: *Jeanne will share updated draft via survey with larger group of WCAG 3 folks to get feedback on current direction, scope, number of outcomes, etc. *Minutes: *https://www.w3.org/2023/05/11-coga-minutes.html -- Julie Rawe Associate Director, Editorial Strategy E: jrawe@understood.org Pronounced "raw" (like "uncooked") She | her
