RE: Need feedback on "Use small chunks of text"

I hope this helps - here is a something on short paragraphs from a US plain English site
" Writing experts recommend paragraphs of no more than 150 words in three to eight sentences. Paragraphs should never be longer than 250 words. "
https://www.plainlanguage.gov/guidelines/concise/write-short-paragraphs/

This EasySurfing document suggests not more than six lines in a paragraph

Subject: Need feedback on "Use small chunks of text"

Hi COGA TF,

Thank you for all the great feedback on the Design Requirement "Use small chunks of text". I've made changes based on your comments.

I still need your feedback on one part. In the Details section, there is a question:

  * "What is a short paragraph?"
  * Draft Answer: "In English, if you have a paragraph of more than 50 words, see if it could be broken up into two paragraphs."
I'm worried that if we just say "short paragraphs" that people won't write content that is easy to understand. Can you help me find the best way to answer this question: "What is a short paragraph?"

Do you know of any COGA research that could guide us in answering this question? Is there a reality check we could suggest? Something like "If your paragraph has more than X words, double-check to make sure it only covers one point?" Or something like "If your paragraph has more than Y sentences, double-check to make sure it only covers one point?"

Please add your ideas in the Google Doc (or in email)
