Re: Open letter urging to pause AI

The software industry has a decades long history of defying regulation. For
some reason software has largely escaped regulation in spite of "eating the
world". Perhaps there's still a romantic mystique about geeks. Perhaps
software has found itself to be the last refuge of libertarians.
The respective genies of various industries have always been out of their
bottles prior to the recognition that regulations are necessary. That
doesn't seem a valid reason. Indeed genies being out of bottles are the
reason we need to understand better and if warranted, to regulate.
