Once again, I have a conflicting appointment and won’t be able to chair tomorrow’s Cognitive AI telecon. I am however able to report steady progress on updating the chunks library to support sub-symbolic parameters. Analysis of some examples shows that spreading activation needs to be bidirectional when chunks are updated or recalled, i.e. spreading from a chunk to the chunks referenced by its type or property values, and vice versa in a decaying wave that boosts related memories. To support this, I am adding a new graph index, and taking great care not to break anything. Once the testing is completed, I will then be able to get on with the memory test demo, and to show the forgetting curves for unrelated words, words related taxonomically, and words related thematically. This is preparatory work for using sub-symbolic information for natural language processing, e.g. word sense priming, and ranking potential bindings for nominal groups. I hope to have something to show on Monday, March 29, along with discussing some of the outstanding GitHub issues on the chunks spec.
