Reminder: there will be a Cognitive AI CG call today at 17:00 CEST

Hello,

It has been a long while since we last held a teleconference for the Cognitive AI Community Group, and please note that the time and call details have changed. The call is now at 17:00 CEST, i.e. 4pm UK time, and the new zoom link is given below via a link to the member only email archive.

The chunks and rules spec is maturing well (my thanks to François), and I am noticing an upswing of interest in hybrid approaches to AI that combine symbolic and statistical approaches (e.g. with artificial neural networks) along with websites promoting “contextual AI” as a new buzzword for commercial AI.

I have resumed work on cognitive natural language processing, and am studying how to evaluate semantic consistency in relation to word sense disambiguation, resolution of nominal groups and pronouns, and attachment of prepositional phrases. This relates to the idea of seeking “explanations” for the meaning of words as part of the process of generating a graph representing the meaning of an utterance.

This points to the role of co-occurrence statistics and knowledge-based inference in combination. Researchers have found that we learn associations between concepts whose labels directly co-occur, and subsequently between taxonomically related concepts whose labels share patterns of co-occurrence. Children are good at the former, but poor at the latter, whilst adults are good at both.

For this call, I would like to discuss:

1. Status of the chunks data and rules specification
2. The role of chunks for simplifying digital transformation
3. Contextual AI as a new buzz word for commercial AI
4. Current plans for work on natural language processing
5. Thematic and taxonomic learning from language corpora

If you have any agenda requests, please let me know.
