So I ended contacting the Quixey guys via Twitter, and had a very interesting chat with their CTO; summarizing it, he saw a lot of advantages in Web apps compared to native apps (not least of it, the ability to deep-link into them), and that while app stores may indeed help boost discoverability in some specific cases, it would be at most a short term advantage. He didn't have specific suggestions as what could be done to help with searchability of Web apps in the short term, although he advanced that componentization (as part of more general characterization of the Web as a Web of functions [1]) would most certainly play an important role in that space in the future. They're also working on stuff that sounds like it could use alignment with SysApps, but since they haven't announced it yet, we won't know what that covers till they do.
