Related Initiatives [was RE: State of the Art (was: Starting work)]

If I must provide an Use Case every time I open my mouth, I will stop speaking [;<).

That might be a good thing.

However, some things don’t naturally give rise to Use cases. Mentioning EPUB is more a matter of considering whether something being looked at here could be applicable. So I think it should be on the list of places where there might be application without saying anything more than that at this point.

I have been directed to a W3C Activity that is looking at digital publishing via the Open Web Platform, http://www.w3.org/dpub/.

I visited the Activity page, and see that it is a formal W3C (members only) activity. I found the public mailing list. What I see in the archive is not my cup of tea. It is good to know about the activity. I find it not so appetizing for a member of the public such as myself though.

For us, I think what W3C DPub provides is a source of initiatives where there may be cross-cutting activities and incorporation of even a generic change-tracking mechanism would need to be profiled for their use if usable at all. Look at the list of relevant interest that they provide: IPDF (EPUB), BISG, EDItEUR, IPTC, Daisy, etc.

This is more about coordinated activity, not Use Cases as such. I have no idea what those parties might claim their requirements to be.

Sure !
I want to add EPUB to this list too (see https://www.w3.org/community/change/wiki/Technologies )
Can you please provide a use case such that we record it properly in the https://www.w3.org/community/change/wiki/Use_cases_and_requirements ?

Thanks
Mohamed

Are higher-level document applications that employ XML for expression of their document structures within scope? I am thinking of the existing use of change-tracking in personal-/office-productivity software, such as Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org, where this is covered in the respective standards for OOXML and ODF.

Then I beg you to start discussing topics and fill the wiki with informations that could help :
* Implementations that already support Change Tracking
* Attempts in the past to define a Change Tracking Markup
* Markup or Specification that uses Change Tracking
* Markup or Specification that could be related to Change Tracking (Diff, etc.)
