i think this is an appropriate way to resolve this issue. it seems like
iOS 4 has added support for sms:, and other mobile platforms might do
that as well (or maybe they have done it already). i guess in the
not-too-distant future, URI-based support for tel: and sms: URIs should
be about the same, and should work on most mobile web platforms.
