Bioschemas out-of-date with Schema.org

Hi All

Yesterday Alan Williams alerted me to an instance of a problem that I was expecting that we would encounter at some point.

the types as specified in bioschemas profiles are no longer totally correct according to schema.org

For example, keywords used to be just Text - and this is reflected in the bioschemas profiles

However, according to schema.org it is now DefinedTerm, Text or URL. This means that, for example, the DataCatalog profile is incorrect.

We discussed this during the Steering Council meeting yesterday and agreed that there was a need for some immediate remedial work and then an ongoing task, but the main impact would be on a small number of our profiles; those that are defined over existing Schema.org types. After a quick look through our profiles, we believe that Dataset, DataCatalog, and literature related profiles are at the biggest risk of this at the moment, as other profiles are either not being used (e.g. Event, Person, and Organization) or are being actively reviewed by the Training Group.

The immediate remedial work will be taken on by Leyla and myself.

Going forward, we expect that Working Group Leads will take on the task of ensuring that their profiles are kept up-to-date with the latest Schema.org releases. This can be done by quickly reviewing the change log on each release of Schema.org. The issue raised by Alan is the first bullet in the changes for version 10.0 listed on the releases page<https://webschemas.org/docs/releases.html>.

Best regards

Alasdair
