As you'll know, the Big Data Europe Project is designed to support organisations active in addressing the 7 societal challenges identified by the European Commission. To this end we established a set of 7 W3C Community Groups as fora for discussion about what role big data technologies may play. After much consideration, the project partners believe this was not the correct approach and we have acted accordingly. 1. Primary communication about events related to BDE and each societal challenge will be made via a separate mailing list. 2. The 7 W3C Community Groups have been closed and a single new one set up. This will be used in a manner much more closely aligned with the purpose of all W3C Community Groups which is to foster innovation, and in particular, note where future standardisation efforts should be made. It is not possible, legally or technically, to simply transfer your membership of the old CG(s) to the new one. Therefore, you need to join the new CG yourself (no one can do this for you). I strongly encourage you to do so via https://www.w3.org/community/bde/ Substantive discussions about the technologies used, the problems faced and solutions tried are very welcome via the new CG's mailing list. The W3C Community is large, active, and always interested in new ways of doing things - let's engage them! The material from all past groups is archived at https://www.w3.org/community/groups/past/ This e-mail is Bcc'd to all members of the 7 previously established BDE-* Community Groups which are now closed. -- Phil Archer W3C Data Activity Lead http://www.w3.org/2013/data/ For Big Data Europe http://philarcher.org +44 (0)7887 767755 @philarcher1
