The aim of the workshop was to introduce the BDE project to key stakeholders, spend some time discussing key challenges in this domain with invited experts, then breakout into groups to highlight challenges and requirements for the BDE aggregator platform building. Key challenges in applying big data approaches to healthcare and demographic change that were identified included: how large scale data interoperability in this domain is effected by standards, vocabularies and ontologies veracity and provenance of data sources as the key to building user trust standardisation approaches required to ensure interoperability being clear about data areas where standardization would be a challenge owing to gaps in existing tooling how advances in visualization are needed to gain impact and value from big data the importance of privacy and security especially as this relates to patient/private data how policy is influenced by smart ideas and innovation establishing, recognizing and sharing best practice A full report will follow, watch this space and please keep in touch through: Subscribing to the BigDataEurope Newsletter; Joining our healthcare and demographic changes W3C Community Group; giving us 12 minutes of your time to complete our big data survey Keep in touch with us on Social Media (Twitter, LinkedIn, SlideShare). ---------- This post sent on BDE-Health, demographic change and wellbeing Community Group 'First BDE workshop completed' https://www.w3.org/community/bde-health/2015/05/29/first-bde-workshop-completed/ Learn more about the BDE-Health, demographic change and wellbeing Community Group: https://www.w3.org/community/bde-health
