W3C - BD, Comics, Manga Community Group

The Angoulême International Comics Festival (France) is the perfect opportunity to resume work on digital publications such as Bande Dessinée, manga and comics, which we call Digital Visual Narrative(s) (DIVINA). This message is common between the newly created W3C Community Group <https://www.w3.org/community/bdcomacg/> and the EDRLab Working Group <https://www.edrlab.org/2017/07/07/bd-comics-manga-working-group-starting/>  the latter having been working on this subject for over a year.

As a reminder, the W3C Community Group aims to study and document the use cases and conceptual model that underlie different types of digital visual narratives. This objective is specified in the CG charter <https://github.com/edrlab/bd-comics-manga/blob/master/BD%20Comics%20Manga%20Community%20Group%20Charter.htm>  which will have to be discussed and validated quickly.  

The EDRLab Working Group will continue to work on a technical specification <https://github.com/edrlab/bd-comics-manga>  in the form of an extension of the Readium WP Manifest: this specification, 100% compatible with the use cases now studied in the Community Group W3C, will eventually be transferred to the W3C Publishing Working Group for study and mapping to the W3C WP Manifest.

Therefore, the work will be divided between the W3C Community Group and the EDRLab Working Group. In order not to waste time, we are taking the initiative to organize 2 Community Group meetings and one Working Group meeting per month.

2 × (the same) W3C Community Group meeting per month:
1 time on a [EU - JP] compatible time slot
A 2nd time on a [EU - USA] compatible slot

About the EDRLab Working Group meetings:
It will take place once a month and will focus (in the morning 1h30) on finalising the specification work already started on "simple" cases considered as priorities by the Community Group (hence the reason for the exceptionally common email between the two groups).
It will then focus for 1 hour in the afternoon on laying the foundations for advanced use cases, for which we have insistent requests from authors.

Here is a first proposal of dates to be confirmed together.

Bonjour à tous

Le festival international de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême (France) est l’occasion parfaite de reprendre le travail autour des publications numériques de type BD, Manga et Comics, que nous dénommons Digital Visual Narrative(s) (DIVINA). Ce message est commun entre le Community Group W3C  <https://www.w3.org/community/bdcomacg/>nouvellement créé et le Working Group EDRLab <https://www.edrlab.org/2017/07/07/bd-comics-manga-working-group-starting/> qui travaille sur ce sujet depuis plus d'un an.

Pour rappel le Community Group W3C  a comme objectif d'étudier et documenter les cas d'utilisation et le modèle conceptuel qui sous-tendent différents types de narrations visuelles exprimées numériquement. Cet objectif est précisé dans le charter du CG <https://github.com/edrlab/bd-comics-manga/blob/master/BD%20Comics%20Manga%20Community%20Group%20Charter.htm>  qui devra être discuté et validé rapidement.  

Le Working Group EDRLab continuera de son côté à travailler sur une spécification technique <https://github.com/edrlab/bd-comics-manga>  sous la forme d'une extension du WP Manifest Readium : cette spécification, 100% compatible avec les cas d'utilisation étudiés désormais dans le Community Group W3C, sera reversée à terme au Publishing Working Group W3C pour étude et mapping vers le WP Manifest W3C.

Aussi le travail va se repartir entre le W3C Community Group et l’EDRLab Working Group. Afin de ne pas perdre de temps, nous prenons l’initiative d'organiser 2 réunions Community Group et une réunion de Working Group par mois.

1 fois sur un créneau horaire compatible [Eu — JP]
Une 2e fois sur un créneau compatible [EU — USA]

Concernant le Working Group EDRLab
Il aura lieu 1 fois par mois et se focalisera (le matin 1h30) sur la finalisation du travail de spécification déjà commencé sur les cas « simples » et jugés prioritaires par le Community Group  (d’où la raison du mail exceptionnellement commun entre les deux groupes)
Il se focalisera aussi pendant 1h l’après-midi à entamer et poser les bases des cas avancés, pour lequel nous avons des demandes insistantes de la part d'auteurs.
