We will be wrapping up the W3C Automotive Working Group, hopefully bringing VISS version 2 to Recommendation in the coming months. VISS will continue at COVESA (yet to be kicked off), especially as it is a central point in COVESA/AutoSAR collaboration. The ontology/data modeling work will also continue at COVESA and hopefully with members of the W3C community. One of the last things we have been working on in VISS is to include the concept of being able to support external consent management frameworks. Although some auto manufacturers have partially addressed consent, it tends to be limited to their proprietary platforms. Properly handling consent and privacy in a broader ecosystem would be a major enabler for the multitude of industries seeking to provide services to vehicle owners. We are launching the W3C Automotive Privacy Principles Community Group. Membership in W3C or COVESA is not required, anyone is welcome to participate. The thinking is having a theoretical, principled effort at W3C and a practical, proof of concept effort at COVESA would compliment one another well. COVESA, formerly GENIVI, and W3C have a long track record of collaborating around automotive with the former well established with the auto industry (OEM, suppliers, solution providers) and the latter the Web community and big tech. Please consider joining this group or forwarding to colleagues or acquaintances who may be interested. ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: <public-council@w3.org> Date: Mon, Jan 8, 2024 at 12:03 PM Subject: Automotive Privacy Principles Community Group Launched To: Ted Guild <edwardguild@geotab.com>, Ulf Bjorkengren < ulf.bjorkengren@gmail.com>, Rudolf Streif <rudolf.streif@ibeeto.com>, Ansgar Gerlicher <gerlicher@hdm-stuttgart.de>, Paul Boyes <paul.boyes@covesa.global>, Cc: <public-council@w3.org> With your support, the Automotive Privacy Principles Community Group has been launched: http://www.w3.org/community/autoprivacy/ This group was originally proposed on 2024-01-03 by Ted Guild. A major obstacle to transportation's information transformation is better protection of personal privacy. The Mozilla Foundation properly called in out in their assessment It’s Official: Cars Are the Worst Product Category We Have Ever Reviewed for Privacy . The goal of this Community Group is to create guiding principles specific to the automotive industry and to work in conjunction with COVESA in prototyping and promoting appropriate solutions. -------------------- Thank you, W3C Community Development Team
