Also sharing here an article sent on slack. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/12/27/self-driving-car-big-tech-monopoly-525867 it would have been nice if they expanded more on "the Connected Vehicles Systems Alliance" to: 1) include its more common name COVESA 2) + W3C 3) provide links 4) describe it more than just furthering AAOS 5) interesting read although some bits I know of a bit simplified. I asked W3C Communications cc Mike Nunnery to send a correction request. There are some things worth discussing and assume we can on tomorrow's call. * VSS in the cloud, a focus for 2022 * Ideas for improving communications and celebrate more indicators of uptake * Any ties into Rivian? Discuss EV startups as a focus in addition to traditional OEM, the smaller ones can be more agile and have less technical debt * Remember when we cared about voice but didn’t get Nuance interested before they left W3C? (now owned by MS**) debate if we want to try to get back into the fray or stay away. AWS Alexa, MS Nuance and Google Voice - all in W3C (as is Apple Siri) although in other areas than automotive. One simpler, smaller idea is to encourage use of our descriptions in VSS whenever a speech interface is conveying signals information. We might need a short version (likely the node name), a second more layperson description and then also start thinking about translations. It is possible to crowdsource translations and maintain separately from VSS itself. * WG gave up on much earlier IVI scope (nav, media etc in addition to voice) and remained focused on data. AAOS is starting to take hold of head units in varying forms across OEM. We are subsequently focused on different set of use cases. COVESA more than W3C Auto is exploring AAOS alignment. Are there other avenues we want to look into here? -- Ted Guild (he, him, his) Geotab Connectivity Standards Lead Direct Toll-free Visit +1 (702) 283-0208 +1 (877) 431-8221 www.geotab.com Twitter <https://twitter.com/geotab> | Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/Geotab> | YouTube <https://www.youtube.com/user/MyGeotab> | LinkedIn <https://www.linkedin.com/company/geotab/>
