Paul introduced me to Brent to see if there might be some areas of collaboration. Brent will correct me if I misrepresent what they are doing but my understanding is they are creating a cloud based system where motorcyclists and bicyclists make their presence known to drivers. Both are running client apps which figure out their location and trajectory to provide warnings to drivers. In addition to cloud+app based, Ridar is working on DSRC/C-V2x based solutions. Having both are there will be mix of vehicle capabilities for a considerable number of years makes sense. http://ridarsystems.com/ demo: https://youtu.be/qzFULYnQwYI To me as a bicyclist and previous motorcyclist who understands too well that drivers often do not see riders, this is a worthy endeavor. For our group specifically what came to mind is this is an excellent use case for an app that could be running on vehicles, sending its anonymized trajectory to their cloud service in addition to V2x broadcasts. The notifications solution following the same model as ViWi that VW mentioned to us in the past could handle the push notifications to alert driver of upcoming cyclists. -- Ted Guild <ted@w3.org> W3C Automotive Lead http://www.w3.org
