Automobiles as a thing in IoT

At our face to face we met with some of the W3C WoT people and on
yesterday's call I reported I met with someone from OCF on them
reviving their auto work. Sanjeev Ba and Wonsuk Lee had earlier done a
proof of concept representing a vehicle as a thing in OCF framework
based on W3C VISS.

Automotive big data needs and Internet of Things are significant use
cases for VISS v2 (or whatever we end up naming the spec). We agreed
that although our primary focus in the Auto WG is on v2 we need to
remain cognisant of these important use cases. The data task force in
the BG has a few topics it is pursuing.

Nearby to IoT is V2x and Smart Cities, which similarly would benefit
from common data model for signals and common means to access them on
the vehicle. We discussed this topically and agreed it would be
worthwhile to delve further, ideally trying to draw in colleagues from
our respective organizations on their opinions.

As the v2 spec work is just getting started and some of the
contributors have indicated limited availability, we anticipate not
being able to have a substantive discussion about it next week and
perhaps Auto IoT would be a good topic instead. This may be too short
notice to find people from within their companies to bring to the call
to present. We can make additional opportunities later.

Also feel free to provide thoughts in writing to the group list, I
will. I shared some of my thoughts in brief on the call as I did at the
F2F, especially how there are a number of issues in common for both
auto big data and IoT.
