On our 6 February Auto WG at 14 GMT call we will hear a presentation from Geotab on their Neutral Vehicle concept being discussed with other fleet managers and regulators. It is similar in some regards to the ISO20078 initiative we heard about from Daimler on a previous call. https://www.w3.org/2017/11/21-auto-minutes.html#item03 Calendar and call coordinates. Interested parties who wish to attend but do not have W3C credentials to access may contact me. https://www.w3.org/2018/auto-wg.ics https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/meetingdetails.html?year=2018&month=2&day=6&hour=14&min=0&sec=0&p1=43&p2=234&p3=37&p4=136&p5=248&p6=235&p7=33&p8=771 ISO20078 is focused on allowing third parties to access data silos. Neutral Vehicle looks to cover collection, transmission to silos and sharing with third parties. We know of other similar efforts. W3C is working on standards for consistent access of vehicle signals to applications running directly on the vehicle itself. Applications could be written using these standards for doing on-vehicle data sampling and transmission to data silos. The data model W3C specs are exposing are coming from Genivi VSS, that model could be considered for sharing data from silos to third parties. We know some silos are already using W3C EXI (not Automotive specific) to more efficiently transmit data. https://github.com/GENIVI/vehicle_signal_specification/ https://www.w3.org/XML/EXI/ Introduction: Data and data driven business models are driving innovation and transformation in virtually all sectors of the economy; transportation is at the forefront of these developments. While still seen as part of the "future"by consumers, connected vehicles are a reality in the commercial space today and have been for the past 15 years. The requirements of commercial "mega-users" and others show what will be needed to compete: Mixed fleet capabilities, high quality and real time data, ultra *efficient* data delivery and, above all, security. These requirements will be amplified by the super-users of the future including government and smart communities. In order to compete effectively with large data companies entering the sector, current stakeholders, including OEMs, must offer secure and interoperable data interfaces in order to enable an ecosystem based on competition, innovation and customer choice. This presentation will introduce an approach for security governance underpinning such an ecosystem, the *neutral vehicle*, and provide a preview of how transportation data analytics will become the essential building block of smart communities. -- Ted Guild <ted@w3.org> W3C Systems Team http://www.w3.org
