I'm going off Windows too. I'm using the VirtualMidiSynth locally, but Windows MIDI is a nightmare on most user's machines. The Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth isn't showing up in my list of devices on windows 8 anyhow, and I suspect most people will just give up when they cant find any output devices in my application.
