[Minutes] Audio WG teleconference 18 June 2015

Hi Group,

Here are the minutes of our meeting today. We neglected to name a scribe so
this is a bit rougher than it should be; I'm writing from memory here.

1. Next Telcon

The date of our next call will be Thursday 2 July 2015 at noon Boston time.

2. TPAC 2015 WG meeting schedule

We discussed the timing of the Audio WG meetings at TPAC 2015. Doug
expressed interest in moving this to Thu/Fri so that he and Chris could
attend with fewer conflicts. However this causes potential travel problems
for Chris Wilson. Joe Berkovitz raised the point that the meeting timing
had already been polled and agreed prior to TPAC and changes could affect
other WG members not on the call; perhaps the W3C staff can find ways to be
present often enough to make the current schedule work.

3. New Issue Triage

We discussed all the open uncommitted issues. Some were deferred to next,
some were resolved and added to V1 as Ready to Edit. A few things came up:

- #541 A-rate phase offset of Oscillators - we are seeking input from
browser vendors on the difficulty of implementing this as it seems like a
significant feature gap.

- #535 Promise return/reject/resolve ordering - Chris W is seeking general
clarification from the TAG as this transcends Web Audio.

4. AudioWorker Progress

Chris has discussed issue #532 with Alex Russell of the TAG. No particular
outcomes there but Chris has also found that there seems to be little
prospect of having script loading and execution run in some thread other
than the audio thread, meaning that loading up AudioWorkers will inevitably
cause glitching as scripts are initialize. This is not a showstopper
though: the feature is still incredibly useful and important; it just means
that scripts should be loaded either as part of app initialization or while
audio is quiescent.

Need Paul's input on this, and determination of best way forward to create
a reasonable definition of AudioWorker (perhaps still not a Worker,
fundamentally) so pushed back on Needs WG Review.

@padenot can you please chime on on this subject via email?

5. Media Capture Rollup

Outlined proposals to be submitted to Media Capture:
a. channelCount constraint and MediaTrackCapabilities member

b. MediaTrackCapabilities to be provided in unfiltered enumerateDevices()
results

c. down the line, a forked and substantially redone AudioOutput API draft
(this is on a different schedule from Media Capture device input API and so
is not of immediate concern to the webRTC chairs)

6. Testing

Requested any additional test suites from Microsoft.

Doug Schepers suggested looking at a solution to using the web platform
test repo being explored in the Pointer WG by jQuery people:
