I’d also like to point out that I’ve proposed an API for play and pause (and more!), tracked by <http://www.w3.org/2011/audio/track/issues/15>, proposed in <http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-audio/2012AprJun/0139.html> and <http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-audio/2012AprJun/0150.html>
