Greetings from Brazil! First of all, sorry if this is not the right e-mail address to write about this issue. I'm writing the Audio W3C team because I believe MIDI files should be supported by the HTML5 <audio> tag. MIDI support on the web today is much worse than it was 15 years ago. It seems we have moved backwards instead of improving MIDI support. As you know, MIDI files allow for rich music content to be played without downloading big, compressed-or-not wave files.
