DAPT progress and TPAC 2025 and a DAPT Users Group

Audio Description CG folk,

Good things come in threes! (do they?)

Firstly, In case you didn’t spot the news<https://www.w3.org/news/2025/w3c-invites-implementations-of-dubbing-and-audio-description-profiles-of-ttml2/>, the Timed Text Working Group (TTWG) published a Candidate Recommendation, and call for implementation, of DAPT on 11th March 2025.

The latest version can be found at https://www.w3.org/TR/dapt/

If you have any interest in implementing this, I’m happy to chat! Also, if you have implemented it, please let us know. I am aware of some in-progress implementations already. The test suite is under development in the https://github.com/w3c/dapt-tests repository.

Secondly, although TPAC 2025<https://www.w3.org/events/tpac/2025/tpac-2025/> seems a way off (10th November, in Kobe, Japan) Chairs have been asked to help schedule the week by requesting meeting times. I have taken the liberty of requesting a single meeting slot, which potentially could be a joint meeting with TTWG, probably on the Monday or Tuesday, but avoiding overlaps with MEIG and Media WG. Please let me know if you’re interested to attend, or if you would be, but would prefer a different day.

And thirdly, a TTWG participant recently expressed an interest in having a DAPT Users Group, to share implementation and usage experience, develop good practices, etc. Although we haven’t established it yet, I will raise the idea at next week’s CCSubs meeting<https://ccsubs.org/mws-2025-meetup-registration/> hosted by Fraunhofer in Berlin and online. If you’re interested in this then I encourage you to register and attend.

Kind regards,

Nigel
