Respec cleanup pull requests in ARIA repositories

Marcos Caceres made some pull requests on the aria repository, some of 
which needed to be done in each ARIA repo and some of which needed to be 
done in aria-common. Therefore I have done a set of pull requests for 
the various repos (listed below). These pull requests depend on the pull 
request in aria-common, so they need to be accepted at the same time. 
Feel free to take a look at them and comment etc. especially if you 
object to them, but please don't merge them until we can coordinate and 
accept them all at once to minimize transitory breakage. Michael
