RE: Plan to propose similar group about current level of ARIA support.

Hi Joe,

If you are talking about support of ARIA by assistive technologies, we would have overlapping goals. And, I think one group would be better than two. I hope we can join forces!!

I’ve been talking about this for at least a couple years now, but it’s taken a long time to get what I believe are the essential prerequisites in place, the most important of which being and adequate set of reasonably stable, robust reference implementations of ARIA design patterns in the Authoring Practices Guide.

Even though I propose this community group a couple weeks ago, I had some unexpected delays getting sign offs. So, it is only minutes ago that I actually became a member and was able to designate myself and Michael as chairs. Now that we have the basic infrastructure in place, we are in a good position to start discussing drafts of goals and project plans.

I have not previously led a W3C community group. I am just now familiarizing myself with the tools and documentation. My current thinking is that, other than the list, the primary home for communications will be the GitHub repo.

Please feel free to share the goals you had in mind for the group you were considering proposing.

Best,

Matt King

Hi Joe,

Matt King and I are the ones behind this. Our plan right now is to first focus on AIRA support, then broaden the scope to more technologies. We don't have all of the details ironed out yet and we would like input from the community before establishing any formal plans.

I'm very curious what you were going to propose and how it might differ. Hopefully, there is room and opportunity for us to align and work together.

Please feel free to share your thoughts here or reach out to Matt and me directly.

Hello,

This group seems to be similar to a W3C community group I was going to propose after the Accessing Higher Ground conference. I would like to talk with the people behind it to see if our goals overlap because I do not believe people will contribute to both groups.

Thank you,
 Joe
