+1. However I would note that it should not be an error if you do happen to specify a role when there are implicit semantics. I think at the moment HTML (5.1) indicates it is an error to, for example, put role="heading" on an h3. It would be nice if this were not a validation error, since, as Birkir mentioned, sometimes you just need to do it anyway.
