RE: 7 Day Call for Consensus March 31, 2016 ARIA Working Group Resolution on role "password"

To clarify my position: the revised CFC addresses the issues raised regarding the password role. I am comfortable with the normative language and with its being "should" rather than "must" (recognizing that alternative approaches to implementation that nonetheless preserve security are feasible).

In practice, given the security consequences of doing otherwise, I think UA and AT developers will implement the role appropriately and that the proposed language is properly prescriptive while giving implementations scope to vary the user interface from what we recommend if they have good reason to do so.

For example, I think the clicking sounds produced by VoiceOver under iOS when password text is entered would be a reasonable implementation in this context.

Again, +1 to the revised CFC.
