Hello again everyone, continuing the theme of picking up very old dangling, at this point almost arthritically drooping, specs and actions, I had a look at the VISS (https://www.w3.org/TR/viss2-core/). This spec lacks even the mention of accessibility at this stage which got me to poking around a little. An earlier version of action 2303 pointed to a best practices document, which has changed name and location since the action was issued but has only grown in relevance. Nowadays, it bears the name In-Vehicle Application Best Practices and resides at https://www.w3.org/community/autowebplatform/wiki/Best_Practices. Admittedly, these best practices have a far larger scope than the VISS, though some of the results of the many proposals made may have significant impact on the contents of the VISS itself. I had a look at the Accessibility section of the best practices which treats its topic with due sincerity but is also not much more than a large number of rump notes. The scope of said notes, however, is more than enough, in my view, for an AUR document, which may actually be something this business group might be interesting in pursuing *please check out the section in its entirety – although it is mainly notes, it si too long to quote here). Another, fare more involved but still not unwarranted, course of action might be to create a task force for vehicle accessibility of its own along the lines of Pronunciation or Personalization/WAI-Adapt. There is, again in my view, ample justification for this as there are area-specific considerations and guidelines to be accounted for and created, respectively. It should be noted that this is far from my area of expertise, although I would be interested to join in the efforts of such a task force, should it ever come into being. Should we perhaps discuss this on a future call? All the best, Fredrik ________________________________ Mag.
