Subject: 48-Hour Call for Consensus (CfC): Publish CAPTCHA as W3C updated Note

This is a Call for Consensus (CfC) to the Accessible Platform Architectures (APA) Working Group seeking consensus to publish the "Inaccessibility of CAPTCHA" document as a W3C Note.

The candidate final draft to review is here:

Our RQTF logged a resolution Wednesday 31 July that work on revising the
2005 version is now complete and recommending that APA advance the current draft to Note status.

***Background Info***

Our second wide review draft published at the end of June received only a few comments. These included valuable editorial comments from the I18N WG, and from a member of the public asking for clarified language in one of our conclusory list items. No substantive comments were received.

Given the document has received significant public review in previous drafts, it is reasonable to believe the current draft represents the state of CAPTCHA accessibility well.

This CfC is now open for objection, comment, as well as statements of support via email. Silence will be interpreted as support, though messages of support are certainly welcome.

We particularly welcome questions and suggested edits, though this could delay publication. It's important we get this draft right, because we will not be working on further updates for some time.

If you object to this proposed action, or have comments concerning this proposal, please respond by replying on list to this message no later than 23:59 (Midnight) Boston Time, Sunday 8 August.

NOTE: This Call for Consensus is being conducted in accordance with the APA Decision Policy published at:

Thanks again to everyone who's worked to update this important document.
