Classification of categories of technical documentation for (applied) science and engineering

Dear all,

A lot of knowledge is captured in technical writing for (applied) science
and engineering. But when I tried to find general classifications for
technical documentation I ended up in a labyrinth of information ranging
from the Society of Technical Communication, the IEEE, IET, ISO and dozens
others.

Since automating processes which involve (applied) science and engineering
I thought this would get me a step further.

Not really.

Does StratML or any other process and documentation automation tackle this
issue?
