Wikipedia, for example, defines knowledge representation and reasoning as the field of AI dedicated to representing information about the world in a form that computer system can use to solve complex tasks, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_representation_and_reasoning That is quite general and avoids a dependency on how information is represented.
