Potential FO on WCAG definitions from Murata-san

Dear WCAG Chairs,

As I am sure you are aware, Makoto Murata plans to file a formal objection based on his concerns about language-specific bias and the potential exclusion of other languages in some of the normative definitions being developed for WCAG 3. The I18n WG plans to invite Murata-san to our next weekly teleconference to discuss further and better understand his concerns. Richard and Fuqiao mentioned that the topic was discussed with WCAG at TPAC, a short-term solution was proposed, and WCAG committed to working towards a long-term solution. In order to have an informed and balanced discussion with Murata-san next week, we would like to get an indication from WCAG of the long-term and short-term plans for addressing Murata-san's concerns, and what work is currently being done in this regard. The Internationalization Working Group recognizes that this is not an easy problem to solve on WCAG's part. At this point, our main goal is to get a better sense of what progress has been made, and what future actions WCAG may be planning.

Thank you for your time. We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Joel Sahleen
Chair, W3C I18n WG
