RE: ACT and ARIA

Hi Brittany,

  * Regarding level AAA, we do have some rules checking for it. For example, Text has enhanced contrast<https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/act/rules/09o5cg/proposed/> or Links with identical accessible names have equivalent purpose<https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/act/rules/b20e66/proposed/>. The main focus in rules writing has however been for levels A and AA given that this is usually what is required by legislation and therefore what most organisations want to test (as a tool vendor, I do see a lot of customers who just de-activate the AAA rules).

Of course, if you have ideas for some rules for AAA criteria, you are more than welcome to try and write them (and we’ll be happy to support you int he process) 😉

  * Regarding ARIA, we also have some rules that specifically check ARIA requirements, for example ARIA attribute is defined in WAI-ARIA<https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/act/rules/5f99a7/proposed/> or ARIA state or property is permitted<https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/act/rules/5c01ea/proposed/>. Here also, there are obvious gaps and more rules could be written (notable to check requirements in the ARIA Authoring Practices Guide<https://www.w3.org/WAI/ARIA/apg/>).

You can browse the list of rules<https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/act/rules/>, both accepted and proposed to get a better overview of the current status. All rules include a “Rule mapping” section at the start which indicates what SC or other requirement is tested by that rule. Make sure to also read about https://www.w3.org/TR/act-rules-format/#accessibility-requirements-mapping to understand what these mappings mean.

Subject: ACT and ARIA

Hi, I'm sorry I forgot to include this in my previous email. But I'm also interested in regarding the ACT, if it ties to WCAG and ARIA/WIA-ARIA? I don't have much knowledge around ARIA, I am not a developer/programmer. But I have been asked by my management to look into the subject and was wondering if someone could help me?

Cheers,
