What about mobile clients which change networks frequently? How often are
we going to issue these test probes to discover faulty transparent proxies?

Mike's already covered many of the downsides of pipelining. I'd like to
reiterate that the head of line blocking problem is huge. Also, there is a
question of how deep a pipeline can successfully go, since there are
constraints on the amount of buffering intermediaries can do. Furthermore,
pipelining has ill-defined failure modes. If it turns out that a HTTP/1.1
server doesn't support pipelining, how do you tell (see
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-nottingham-http-pipeline-01#section-3)?
And if the underlying TCP connection dies (http://crbug.com/27400), how do
you discover this? SPDY has PING frames to address this.

So we have to wait for the first response to come back before we can see if
we can use header compression? That's quite unfortunate, especially for the
mobile case where the client more aggressively closes connections to
conserve power, and also since the mobile case especially benefits from
header compression. I'm also not a fan of allowing this to be negotiated,
for reasons Mike already covered in his talk. Note that only 2/3 of
compressible content on a page is actually compressed (
