OK, since it has caused so much confusion, I'm adding upstream/downstream and inbound/outbound to the terminology section (1.3). upstream/downstream Upstream and downstream describe the flow of a message: all messages flow from upstream to downstream. inbound/outbound Inbound and outbound refer to the request path where the origin server is always the most inbound server and the client is always the most outbound. These are not the best definitions that could be wordsmithed, but I think they will have to do, as I need to get the draft submitted today and it will take a few hours to produce the new drafts and submit them. If there is another draft (not unlikely, as IESG last call may cause comments) we can revisit the definitions then and maybe craft better ones. Hopefully I've undone the damage to the document caused by the confusion, and people are less confused. - Jim
