Chris, Here is some information regarding the status of Plane 14 Language Tag Characters from the recent WG2 and SC2 meetings in Seattle. Please pass this on to anyone active in IETF who has a need to know that WG2 and SC2 are moving ahead on Plane 14 characters. Thanks, --Ken Whistler ==================================================================== RESOLUTION M34.14 (Characters for inclusion in WD of Part 2): WG2 accepts the following: a. Plane 14 Characters for Language Tags according to document N1670. ... [[ also accepted Etruscan, Gothic, and Western Musical Symbols --kenw]] and instructs its project editor to include the above accepted characters in the working draft of 10646-2. ==================================================================== Excerpts from ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC2 N 3058, "Scope update for Project JTC 1.02.18.02, ISO/IEC 10646 Part 2" "The new part will specify additional planes allowing the definition of an additional set of graphic characters beyond the Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP) already covered by the part 1. The part will describe three planes, the CJK Unified Ideographs Supplementary Plane (UISP), the General Scripts and Symbols Plane (GSP) and the General Purpose Plane (GPP)..." "The General Purpose Plane is intended to contain only non-graphic characters. Its first planned usage is the inclusion of tag characters. Tagging can be described as the association of attributes of text with a point or range of the primary text. The Characters for Language Tags repertoire was accepted for inclusion in the GPP by WG2 (WG2 Resolution M34.14)." --Boundary (ID uEbHHWxWEwCKT9wM3evJ5w)
