Invitation to comment: netCDF-LD standard

Dear all,

For your information, and with invitation to comment. The netCDF Standards Working Group within OGC have been working on an encoding standard for interpreting netCDF metadata as linked data graphs, called netCDF-LD.

This work has recently been pre-published, with an invitation for public comment:
https://www.ogc.org/pressroom/pressreleases/4704
https://www.ogc.org/standards/requests/248

netCDF-LD is aimed at enhancing the use of content metadata within netCDF files across large collections of files. netCDF is used widely in the environmental sciences for data capture, analysis and archival. netCDF as a format is used for encoding array-oriented earth- and space-science data.

The Semantic Web community is invited to engage with this public comment phase directly via OGC and to engage with the editorial team via Github (and the Github issue tracker) https://github.com/opengeospatial/netcdf-ld. We would value your perspectives and feedback on this work, particularly prior to publishing. Comments are due in to the OGC by June 24, 2022.

There is open source software implementing this standard, available for use, including
https://github.com/binary-array-ld/net.binary_array_ld.bald (Java)
https://github.com/binary-array-ld/bald (python)
https://github.com/binary-array-ld/bald-notebooks (Jupyter notebooks)

Thanks for your time. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
