VoCamp Galway 2008

Hi everyone,

after a successful first VoCamp in September in Oxford, the second
VoCamp [1] will be hosted at DERI Galway in Ireland in little more
than a month from now, on 25th-26th November.

What are VoCamps? - "VoCamp is a series of informal events where
people can spend some dedicated time creating lightweight vocabularies/
ontologies for the Semantic Web/Web of Data. The emphasis of the
events is not on creating the perfect ontology in a particular domain,
but on creating vocabs that are good enough for people to start using
for publishing data on the Web. The intention is to follow a 'paper
first, laptops second' format, where the modelling is done initially
on paper and only later committed to code. The VoCamp idea is heavily
influenced by BarCamp, although the VoCamp should only have
presentations where strictly necessary." [2]

Just like the first VoCamp, the event will be very loosely organised -
we will provide the facilities, coffee and cookies, you bring ideas
and enthusiasm to discuss, design and develop vocabularies and
ontologies for the Semantic Web. Some people will surely continue the
work they have started at VoCamp Oxford, but everyone is invited to
join and come with new ideas as well!

VoCamp is a free event - there is no workshop fee in order to attend.
However, you will have to cover your own expenses, i.e. travel,
accommodation and food. Also, space is limited, so we are restricting
the number of attendees to 30 - if you want to come, make sure to put
your name on the list in the VoCamp wiki [3] and don't forget to put
down some topics you'd like to work on!

If you need more convincing, have a look at some pictures from the
previous VoCamp in Oxford: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/vocampoxford2008/

Looking forward to welcoming you to Galway,

Knud Möller, Richard Cyganiak and Uldis Bojars
