RE: SOAP Versioning

Thank you for your comments. I can see that the versioning
issue was addressed at some length. The result is a discussion
of how versioning between SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2 should be managed.
As http://www.w3.org/TR/soap12/#version points out, there
is still not a general versioning mechanism that can apply
to any version (since the Working Group is still considering
providing one). And, also as you point out, the applicability
of the specific mechanism for transitioning from SOAP 1.1 to
SOAP 1.2 may not apply as a general versioning mechanism.

I don't think the issue can be considered "closed" until there
is a general versioning mechanism: either a new mechanism
or a convincing analysis that the specific mechanism proposed
for SOAP 1.1 to SOAP 1.2 is appropriate for the general case.

I would also suggest that implementation and demonstration of
interoperability and use of the versioning mechanisms be made
part of the criteria for XML Protocol moving out of Candidate
Recommendation, when that time comes.
