Hi,

I believe that this is the appropriate place to report problems with the
schema that defines the two special attributes, which is located at
http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace. Would that not be the case, please
point me to the appropriate space.

That schema has a basic namespace-invalidity problem. It maps the XML
namespace to the prefix "x" which is forbidden by the Namespaces rec
(see http://www.w3.org/XML/xml-names-19990114-errata#NE05). The fix is
simply to have that bind to the "xml" prefix, and change the two
occurences of its usage.
