Call for Participation in the Library of Texas Project

Greetings:

With this announcement, we are formally releasing the Call for
Participation in the Library of Texas Resource Discovery Service Proof
of Concept. The Library of Texas is an initiative of the Texas State
Library and Archives Commission to create a statewide virtual library
<http://castor.tsl.state.tx.us/lot/>.

One part of the the Library of Texas is the Resource Discovery Service
being developed as part of a project called the Z39.50 Implementation
Component of the Library of Texas (ZLOT). The ZLOT Project website
<http://www.unt.edu/zlot> has various documents related to the Library
of Texas Resource Discovery Service, including a set of functional
requirements for that service that were identified with major input from
librarians across Texas.

The purpose of the ZLOT Proof of Concept is to assess the feasibility of
the identified functional requirements and the ability of the current
library and technology marketplace to meet these requirements.

The ZLOT project website has a page that provides links relevant to the
Proof of Concept:

http://www.unt.edu/zlot/POC/poc_index.htm

From that page, you can link to the Call for Participation. Also, we
have released a companion document, "Guidelines for Participation in the
Proof of Concept Demonstration for the Library of Texas Resource
Discovery Service."

You will want to review the Call for Participation and the Guidelines
document. You can send me a private email at: wemoen@unt.edu to
indicate your interest in participating in the ZLOT Proof of Concept.
We will then need a signed letter of intent from you. Our deadline for
the letter of intent is July 20, 2002.

Participation in the ZLOT Proof of Concept is open to all vendors and
developers that meet the minimal requirements identified in the Call for
Participation and the Guidelines document. Participation in the ZLOT
proof of concept is voluntary. Neither participation nor
non-participation in the ZLOT proof of concept will affect future
opportunities of a vendor or developer in working with the Library of
Texas project.

We hope you will join us in the exciting endeavor to create a premier
statewide vitual library for the citizens of Texas!

Cheers,
Bill Moen, ZLOT Principal Investigator
