Upper Case Lower Case

In XML Schema is it "mandatory" that the use
of upper and lower case be exactly as
specified, i.e. datatype, archetype, elementType, etc.?

Or does the spec not mind variations like dataType, 
archType, elementtype, etc.

If it is mandatory in the spec, is it not likely that XML parsers
will accept the case variations anyway?
