Hi Paul. An issue (issue #1[1]) was opened following your email to www-ws-arch[2] about the meaning of a priori knowledge. The Web Services Architecture Working Group agreed during its 27 Feb 2003 that a priori knowledge was actually prior knowledge, i.e. the knowledge that two parties have about each other before interacting (e.g. the service description), as opposed to what "a priori" hints at: what knowledge a party has (e.g. understanding of XML). The email discussions about this appear in the following threads: WSA issue 1: what is a priori knowledge? http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-ws-arch/2003Feb/0192.html A Priori Information (Was Snapshot of Web Services Glossary) http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-ws-arch/2003Feb/0288.html and the minutes of the call where the decision was made: http://www.w3.org/2002/ws/arch/3/02/2003-02-27-ws-arch.htm As a result, AR023.7.1 in the Web Services Architecture Requirements[3] will be updated to reflect this change.
