Now you're talkin'! 8-)  FWIW, this is what I was referring to when I
said "inherited" earlier.

But what about a transport protocol, like TCP?  Where does the method
come from when somebody uses it?

Anyhow, I'm going to stay largely out of this for now because I've
sought clarification from Jim off-line.
